Tests 3, 4 & 5 pin XLR cables such as:

Also tests combination cables such as 3pin to 5pin adapters.
Bright Green LEDs indicate corect or incorrect wiring and shorts.
Bright red LED indicates a short to connector body.*

*Some sound companies connect pin 1 to the connector body to ensure a good common ground,
this can cause problems when used with digital applications such as DMX.
Any other pin shorted to the body will definitely cause problems.
**If you suspect an intermittent problem you can leave the
switch on any circuit while you "wiggle" the cable to find the break.
(You can't do that with digital, automated or push-button testers!)
